    Stranded car. Carfax help please!

So I have been looking at this car for a while now but the guy never wanted to sell it. It sat at his garage for years, last registration sticker is from 2008. Well, the garage is now gone but the car still sits there. I was wondering if anyone could check a carfax for me to help me find the owner to see if they would sell it now. Not sure that would work as far as information but I figure it's worth a try. If anyone has any better advice please help me out. It's a nice E30. Red coupe, 5 speed in nice shape. Thanks!

I don't even know if that stuff is public record. Pretty sure they dont want car thieves going down to office of records and searching for all owners of (insert desired car to steal here).

Best bet might be to contact local police, ask them to pass along you contact info to the owner. They can look up last registered owner and give them a call.

Local dealers may have records, don't know if they will give you the info but ask them to give the owner yours, postcard, call. If its abandoned you might get a salvage title with motor vehicle.

Most states only allow the name to be public record, and the records are filed by VIN. So you kinda need to know it.
BUT! A driver abstract with any citations, arrests, accident's, etc. will link you to case number.
These always have available last known addresses.

The chances of a person having a sqeaky clean record are slim. But there is always the possibility of it.

OR, you can just ask any police friend cop type buddy. I have lots of them.

i think i (now) understand that the garage was an automotive business garage/shop...

where, i thought it was a neighbors house + covered parking , personal garage....

b/c if its just an abandoned car..it might be cheaper to buy the garage, and claim the abandoned car on your property after so many years...

Tax records are public files, go to your local tax office with the vin.

This man is clever. If you didn't have the policeman I would go this route.
