Where do the iX's sit on the totem of e30 coolness?

I have always wanted 3 e30s: An M3(not gonna happen), a touring (actually kind of ugly and rare) and an iX (all wheel drive!)

My question is where does the ix stand on desirability and rarity? I found one for $4,000 but I'm not sure if its worth the 12 hour drive? I mean they're cooler because of the skirts and flares and all wheel driveness.

The AWD should make them a little quicker right? or does the extra weight actually do the opposite? I really want and AWD e30 but not sure if it would be worth it. Seems like they're a bit different to work on and harder to work on than other e30s.
West German BMWs, they just don't make the same as they did before the wall fell.
^Case in point: Auto-Repair Technology. Everytime my car isn't starting or acting up I let it sit, sometimes for an hour, sometimes for days. But it eventually fixes itself.

Winter climate people love em as a great winter car. A perfect world would be a summer e30 and a winter IX.

Why not DD them all the time? Guessing they're a little worse on MPG?

Heavier, more parts, more drivetrain loss, no RWD fun, different wheel offset, etc.

They are excellent winter cars though.

Just sold mine actually. It was a great car, had atleast 260k miles on it without any major problems.

Not As quick as a I but still fun as hell. Around corners i could floor it and just swing around like a mad man. I averaged 19 city, 24 highway. If that car you are looking at is in gray shape I would certainly pick it up. It still drive like a rear wheel drive car through.

that's unless you compare it to e30 m3 or s50 powered e30 on coils then the ix feels like a big boat during the ocean storm...

I had few ix before, great winter cars but heavy and slow and not as fun DD unless the snow starts to fall

Motor swapped E30 with an upgraded suspension would be faster and handle better than a stock AWD E30? Incredible.

I've never had an iX but I would definitely want to. They seem fun, and a few people on e30tech have stroker motors or turbos, or both, in their iX. That must be fun as hell...

Only problem I know about is keeping the transfer case alive. If that viscous coupling goes out, no more AWD. Other than that, awesome cars.

for me there is just too many negatives to even consider it for a Socal car... when I could just get an easy going RWD E30 and call it a day. If I really needed AWD and reliability I'd get a Subaru.

It's not that big of a deal. It doesn't just fall apart. The ix is plenty fun to drive, mpg is negligible and miata wheels fit if. The rearend wont step out, but it feels like it is stuck to the ground.

To TS, if you serve the IX as you should it will keep on working.
Mine is close to 300000 km on the clock, been running on boost for a couple of years and still works great.

Oh I love tourings, they're kind of ugly but for me its a good way, I just know how much they get hated on around this forum. I saw one one time and did a U-turn just to try and follow it and check it out but it was gone...

Never really got a chance to inspect one up close and personal.

I love my IX. I had an is before and since Ive been driving my ix I won't go back. They are a different kind of beast then the rest of e30's though. Have to be willing to spend a little more on certain parts and the way they drive can be a little different for some people.

Uuuuhhhh.... what forum are you on? Tourings are nearly, universally loved. Especially in the US because of the rarity factor.

I don't see any hate here.
