    Help me with my E46

    hey there

    i know its no E30, but im having a problem with the cabin air fan in my E46, figured id post up here, since i enjoy R3V much more then any other website (aside from 4chan :P)

    so i was having the infamous fluctuating cabin fan in my 00 323CI, so i replaced the final stage unit with what looked like a beefier unit from pelican parts. well that didnt solve it. so i replaced the climate control unit as well, still didnt solve it.

    the only other thing i can think of is its the actual fan itself, but im thinking that cant be, as sometimes the fan works like it should, and it doesnt appear to be making any odd incriminating noises.

    i was also thinking pelican parts sent me a defective final stage unit. It has a one year warranty on it however, and pelican parts said they'd ship me a new one no problem. but id like to see if there is anything else that can cause this problem before i start tearing it apart again.

    sweet, went to try and "reset" the FSU based on another forums advice by pulling the fuse, now the fucking thing wont even come on

    did i mention i live in AZ? would be nice to have that AC

      Try another final stage. 99% of the time the final stage is what causes that on the E46's. Do you have a picture of the final stage they gave you?

        dont have a picture of it, but it looked like it was constructed better then the original unit, more heat sinks etc

        its under warranty, but seems like a huge coincidence that it would be another faulty unit, but then again, crazier things have happened.

        but im assuming thats all there is to the blower system? the final stage unit, the climate control module, and the blower motor itself, im not missing anything am i?

          No that's pretty much all that's involved. I've had brand new final stages be faulty a couple times. It's not uncommon.

                Pretty sure it's the fan, the module on the fan usually fails. You cannot change the module, you must replace the fan unit, be careful as there are 2 different types (early & late).

                  well, i figure ill get another FSR as its still under warranty, if THAT doesnt fix it then i guess that pinpoints the fan.

                  i dont know how much of this is true, but ive heard that the fan units used in Z3s are the same as e46s, and there like a 1/4 price, can anyone back that up?

                      No they're different, i sell these fans all day and i've looked up all the supersessions.

                        ah shit, well no worries, hopefully a second FSR will fix it, if not, then its time to source a fan unit
