    Stomp test no work

So my check engine light on my 88 325is has come on intermittently since I've owned the car. About once a month-ish since last August. I've tried a few times to stomp test it but I never get it to flash codes. It always turns of after a few more miles, sometimes before I stop driving. It came on just as I was getting home from work again and I tried the stomp test again to no avail.

So basically wtf can I do to figure it out?
There are no obvious symptoms or failures when it comes on, to me or my father(ASE certified master tech + L1) who has been in the car when this happens.

same for me, ive been told that a faulty tps would not let the stomp test work correctly. it might need calibration or change. i didnt take any action though, the light still comes on sometimes but goes off after a few feet of driving. i guess my o2 sensor is not reading correctly. i ordered new one to see.
