ok i put the engine in last night. it turns over but wont start finely figured out no fuel. so i jumped the relay (relay was bad) plus loose wire so now theres fuel. so know i have no spark. i checked the rotor and dist. cap there ok i tested the spark plug wires there ok. i put the plug in the wire and grounded it theres no spark(new plug)i also grounded out the wire straight from the coil. the coils not producing any spark. i ohmed the coil its good. so if the plugs,rotor,dist cap.,& coil are good why no spark? from the battery to what; goes to the coil? i have no clue wtf is going on. the coil and wiring hasnt been touched since the engine was removed and installed. it has to be on the engine is all i can think of if dist,rotor and plugs and wires are good. what would it be. thanks! i just want to hear the engine breathe.

What model is this?
Some cars, like my eta, have an "engine speed" and "reference" sensors on the transmission bellhousing, if you don't have the transmission in, with these sensors hooked up, it won't have spark.
Also, if the sensors are reversed, plugged into the the wrong connectors, it also won't run or have spark.
Check that.

The ecu controls spark, so also check your Main relay.85 325e 2.7 ITB'd stroker

i checked all the relays. and everything on the tranny is hooked up except the slave cylinder. 1987 325is a bmw service tech lives down the street and we both couldnt figure out anything. any test i thought of to test everything still didnt produce a spark.Comment

ITS ALIVE!!!!!!!!! i replaced the fuel relay and like before i switched the ignition impulse switch with the speed sensor. i did this before but no start but this time there was fuel with the new relay. i just started it at 3:35am with no exhaust after the cat, it dumps out until i finish the putting the catback on i just wanted to here it but i noticed some neighbors didnt. hahaha.Comment
