Stack v. VDO oil temp guage

Bimmerworld carries a line of Stack electronic and mechanical guages. I just wanted to know if any of you have any experience with them.

I am looking to get an oil temp guage, and I like the look of the Stack and the standard VDO.

I also see that the SPA guage has an adjustable warning signal for overtemp. But $189??

I would think in the oilpan bung/drainplug, with the proper adapter of course.

Cool. Shoot me a PM when you find one. Considering one for our track car.

spend your money on oil pressure instead.

Stack gauges are the bees knees. Quite possibly the best gauges you can get but whether it's worth the price to you is another story.

I have a new oil pump in there and the rest of the motor looked quite nice when I had it open.

I might just pull the trigger and order the Stack. I'll ask if they have the proper oilpan adapter bung too.

Oil pan temps are usually a little lower compared to other places you could put a sender...

Click, I just came across this thread, and it would appear that the pan is not the best. Granted this is an M20 they're discussing, the principal is the same.

Where would you put yours?? I could see maybe the oil filter housing, in the cap, in an unused port, or drilling & tapping?? Couldn't say for sure without my extra housing in front of me.....

Ok...just took a quick look at my spare housing. In the front, between the top and middle mounting bolts, there's a hex headed plug. I removed it to find that it's M12 thread and I can see through to where the oil is pumped into the housing. I may be able to get a sender in there, about 1/4 of it is blocked by the casting, maybe there is enough meat to grind some away should it be necessary.

This looks like it was actually meant for this purpose. When I had my 1g Turbo Eclipse, there were two extra ports on the oil filter housing. From the lower iirc, one could get clean, filtered oil to run to the turbo. It was a common mod to add the RRE SS oil feed line as the hard line from the head was feeding the turbo 'used & dirty' oil that had already run through the motor. And the aluminum threads in the head only held for so long on the original line/banjo bolt.
