"Its preparations are concealed, not published. Its mistakes are buried not headlined. Its dissenters are silenced, not praised. No expenditure is questioned, no rumor is printed, no secret is revealed."
I worked for a Volvo Dealership for three years The owners had Two 1973 P-1800 es's and 1958 PV 444 here are some pics. not only did they own a Volvo dealer the are a Mitsubishi dealer as well that's why there are two EVO's in some of the pics. And not to mention the 1948 Jag barn find they own
I have read that the 444's were styled after a 1930's Ford if you look at this car you see the 30's styling influence, as america built cars with Fins and gill's the sweds were making cars with 30 year old styling.
The stats on this car were impressive for the year 85hp twin SU carbs to give you an idea the 1958 VW beatle produced 36dbh
Volvo PV444 were the first officially imported car in 1957 the black car in the pics was one of the first that came into this country.
The US version did differ in some ways from the Euro version the grill and bumpers mainly.
IPD C30 Gull wing In stock form, the Euro C30's 2.5-liter turbo engine puts out a respectable 218 horses at 5,000 rpm and 236 lb.-ft. of torque at 1,500 rpm. With IPD's enhancements, output is estimated at a whopping 384 ponies at 7,200 rpm and a mind-bending 408 lb.-ft. of torque at a low 2,200 rpm. The gearbox of choice for this application is Volvo's slick-shifting 6-speed manual.
Reminds me of the russian mod scene from youtube. I would not be surprised if that car is blasting some euro house and trance music in that pic. The only reason why I would even tolerate the exterior color is because I think it'd make an awesome canvas for a race car look. Minus that interior LOL
