    bimmer guys stick together

i was driving home from work last night around 1:30am, hauling ass since i just wanted to catch some ZzzZZZ's when i spotted a car puttering along in the breakdown lane, so i started to slow and quickly realized it was a VERY clean 2002.

i was surprised and stopped along side him staring. "well this is awkward" i thought to myself. i knew i should lend a hand. so i pulled over and asked him what was up. turns out he had put bottle caps on his car and the tires rubbed, so one blew out. i really wish i had my spare in the trunk, would have just given it to him. but alas, it was at home.

we talked for a bit, i tried to call a few friends to see if i could get him a spare, everyone was asleep. he said he'd be fine and didn't have far to go, so i left him with my number and went on my way.

i got a txt a little later saying he made it just fine and thanked me for stopping.

now i would not have stopped for any other car, unless it had some naked chicas in it, but thats besides the point. so what i am saying is we really do stick together, when someone needs help we do what we can and show support within our community. i'm not sure if this applies to the newer models, but for us oldschool BMW enthusiasts, we have a good thing going between hospitallity and knowledge.

so if you see another BMW on the side of the road, dont hesitate to help out.

    share your stories!

That's why you keep a spare in your trunk! The fuhraze weight savings won't help any if you get a flat.

I have had the same kind experiences. I am fairly new to the BMW seen, only six years in, but I would like t think of my self as having "old school enthusiast" mentality.
I have been helped by so many older BMW guys, and not just with car stuff. I always try and help people out with free parts when they have no money and a broken car, or just an extra wrenching hand.
I was recently between a rock and a hard place with the prospect of not having a place to live. I put a post up on the 2002 FAQ page, and now my girl and I live with a "old school" BMW guys family!
We do have our bad pickles, but the vast majority of REAL BMW enthusiast are really good people!

I have a story that I'll share tomorrow, it involves my old E30 316i and an epic story, including a first date and a rescue from a 1950's Bentley!!!!!! It'll take some typing!

The BMW servicemobile are they for EVERY BMW...care to explain how they operate and how to get in touch as I have my E30 and E36 in Germany all the time, numbers and how to register for help, just in case :)

Well, I wouldn't say BMW owners tend to stick together. Most owners driving a newer one will laugh at you and drive right on by, wanting nothing to do with an older one or getting dirty.

CLASSIC BMW owners tend to. Because we're not afraid of a little dirt and grease.

But I deserved it, I didn't help this girl with an E30 on Thursday because I was late to something.

                              Good on ya mate!

i agree, the rich fuckers with the newer BMWs have have no idea how to tell a phillips screwdriver from a differential apart. yet alone get their own hands dirty. I guess thats why those pussies opt for BMW roadside service. But seriously, i know im generalizing but its pretty fucking true and sad.

I had a similar experience, I was in my e30 on my home, and saw another e30 on the side of the road with the hood open. I pulled over asked if the guy needed help. He had a spark issue, and a fuel pump issue at the same time, kinda wierd but that what it turned out to be. turned out to be a bad coil and fuel pump. weak spark and no fuel. Just so happens that i carry a few things in a shoe box in the trunk as spares, cause well these fucking e30's ( we love em sooo much) shit sometimes goes wrong!

swapped out the parts and got it going, the guy was ok with mechanics and could tell he was just shit out of luck with what happened to his car. it was clear that it was a failed parts issue. we made arrangements to get my parts back then got a call a couple days later from him and asked me to drop by, turned out he didnt live too too far away. He replaced the parts with brand new ones and gave me a100 bux. i denied the cash at first but his wife insisted.

Moral of the story, you never know if you are cool with another fellow E30 turkey or if your in for it and appear on the 6 o'clock news, but if you see an older car that u know you could help out. Thats your good deed for the day.

felt good to help out, hey that could have been me!
