    Water pump questions

So I replaced my waterpump (graf metal impeller) in march 2011 and now it sounds as if it may have failed as there is a loud clicking similar to this and I want to know 2 things?

#1 Will the pump still be spinning/working if the belt if off the pulley?

#2 Is there any way to confirm that the pump is what is making the noise without pulling it?

I have removed the belt (waterpump/alternator/balancer) and still get the ticking and I just adjusted the valves to 25 stone cold.

    Thanks, Tico

    1) No

    2) You've already ruled out the pump by removing the belt and running the engine.

    How's your oil level?

    I miss the old BMW

Oil level is great. Done messing with this m20 really, I guess the car will have to sit until I can finish my m50 and swap it. I am really bunned cause I would have loved to drive this car this fall (its a vert) but I guess I'll have to wait. Thanks for the reply. Maybe I'll drop a hundy to see if the local BMW guru can solve this.

Dude, don't give up. Film your car and lets hear the noise. Are you SURE you adjusted your eccentrics correctly?

I love when people say they're "done" with the M20 like it's difficult to work on.
