I got busted speeding too, I pulled away from a red light in under 5 seconds...hit 51mph and backed off to coast to 30mph (the limit) got taken to court and they threw book at me. Especially when in the UK the average 22 year old owns a 1.4 VW Golf and not a track prepared E36 328iSE that accelerates like a missle.

I just saw your thread on e36-tech that was linked above. A slammed 328i sedan is hardly track prepared, and a chipped 328i (as everything else is bone stock in the engine bay) hardly accelerates "like a missile." A bone stock E36 M3 (which is ~1.7 seconds quicker than a 328is) is out-accelerated by a V6 toyota camry. Sorry man, a ~6.5sec 0-60 is not incredible world-ending absurd acceleration.

You've a great first car for being a young guy, but you do not have a high horsepower track car.

I gave up serious speeding a long time ago. (As a Californian, you'll get rear-ended if you don't do 10 over.) What's funny is that, despite having gone some relatively high speeds, every ticket I've ever gotten has been going with the flow of traffic.

The detected speed on their laser camera was 117 and because they give you 2kmph off the detected speed i'm being charged with 115 in an 80 zone.

The worst thing is though that if i was going 1 kmph slower i would only lose 3 months as opposed to 6.

Just rang the police and they won't change the alleged speed 1 km so yeah going to have to cop this one on the chin and move on.

Yeh it comes under the hoon laws if you are 40km/h over the speed limit they impound your car you loose your license and get a fine. Then you need to pay to get your car out of impound. If you were to break a hoon law twice then they can crush your car if they so wish. I think there are has only been like 2 or 3 cars that this has happend to but it can happen.

Do a burnout or street race and your car is confiscated from you for 3 months, you lose your license for 6 and have a huge fine. They charge you for the tow to the impound yard, for storage fees at the impound yard and to get your car out of the impound yard.

Get caught racing or doing burnouts a second time and they suspend your license for +12mo and confiscate your car. You don't get it back the 2nd time (some states in Australia crush the car now).

You get 12/13points on your license in Oz and a basic 10km/h speeding fine is generally 2-3 points in most states (some are 1point up to 10km/h over). Once you run out of points, you lose your license for 3months and your insurance will quadruple overnight.

I did 100+mph in a 45 when i got my first ticket but cop gave me a break and put 80+. I got a $500 fine and 8 hrs online class. Back to clean record. :)
