2.8l M5x pricing ?

I have a lead on a 2.8l out of a 96 328i, car was involved in a rollover. Pan was busted during said accident, engine was running still when car came to rest. Not good I know, but I'll be looking at rebuilding it anyway. Guy originally was asking $600 for the engine and transmission, before the busted pan was found, now wants an offer.

Would scrap price based on the weight of the engine be a good starting point? Roughly $100 or so???

I only paid $300 for my 100k mile M52B28 in perfect condition after hearing it run.

From what I've been told it does still run. I do have an E34 NV 2.5 in my garage. I'm mainly just looking for a few odds and ends for the swap. I guess he's planning on sending it to the scrapyard. I'd just hate to see a decent motor/parts junked. It's difficult to find anything BMW related near me, in the land of pulling trucks and farm tractors.

if's he's going to scrap the car, offer him $200 for the engine and trans. Then he can still scrap the car and get some cash from the yard too!
