    Buying 318i

Looking for some info on buying a 318i. Found a 1985 that has 80k on the motor & transmission and 200k on the chassis. Body and interior are clean (clean might actually be an understatement). Price=3k. Not planning on any mods (until things break). Plan is to use it pretty much as a daily driver (if it's willing).

The ask price doesn't seem "wrong" for the car given that I don't want be wrenching before I drive and want a clean body. It's not a steal, it might be a couple hundred high from what I've found. Thoughts, opinions...

The 1985 has the M10 engine in it which is pretty damn low on power. For $3000 you can get a very decent M42 car ('91 318i or 318is) which is a quantum leap forward compared to the old M10.

Also for $3k I would assume with some searching you could get a decent enough M20 car too.

Basically, IMO, you have better options in the price bracket you're working with than a 26 year old M10 E30. Keep looking boss.

an m10-powered e30 is really a $2000 car, tops, even if it is very clean

3k for a m10 318 is asking for too much. for 3k you can find a late model e30 325,318is with lsd, no drum brake and a more reliable car. i heard m10 tends to leak oil into the cylinder 3. just my .02

3000 is beyond ridiculous for that car. Also how are you going to be able to verify that the motor only has 80k on it? If the body and interior were absolutely perfect I would maybe give 2k

Thanks much for the replies. So, from what I am hearing, consensus is 2k for this car.
