    Need Help!?

I have an 84 318. Yesterday i was driving along with my dad in the car. And all of a sudden the engine started to lose power. I pulled it off along side the road and left it run for a while. It idles fine. Then i go out on the road again. About 5 more miles down the road it does it again. It is always the same. The car is running but it never can get above 2000 rpms. I get it home. Finally! Pull the cap off the rotor. Its fried. The rotor is burned to crisp. I call the local autoparts store. I get new cap, rotor, plugs and wires. The wires though won't be in till sat. I get home put everything but the wires on. Runs like a champ. Today i get to work fine. On the way home it does the same thing. I get home again and pull the cap off. Its fine. The plugs were bosch platinums that came out so i put the same ones in and i still have the problem. I called a bmw tech and he said bosch plats were junk. He said to use Autolight 66's instead. He said thats why its missing so bad. Anybody else got any ideas? Thanks
PS. What is the gap on the plugs?

The only thing i can see that is causeing your cap/rotor to be fried would maybe be your coil. get an ohm meter and ohm out your primary and secondary circuits, primary should be pretty low, and your secondary should be like 8-10k ohms. theres nothing wrong with the bosch platinums. aslong as you dont have the 4s or whatever, just the normal OEM bosch plugs. gap is .027in i believe
