I have the same problem, my Wife has Zero love for my Touring.
I say take the E30 off the road spend the winter/spring doing a Resto. Replace all of the maintenance stuff that will go wrong in the near future, all of the old clips holding the interior together, stuff like that. I did one on my Touring(more mechanical than cosmetic) and I couldn't be happier.
Instead of spending the money on a Pruis or another abortion of an automobile, spend it on the E30 so it'll go for another 20yrs. You love it, so it doesn't matter. Plus, after the E30, good luck finding another car that will satisfy you.-03/2005 E46 330D Touring 6spd(204hp/410nM) Sapphire Black/Naturbraun Sport...300k KM & 35mpg(mixed)

M50TU swap into E30. 1000HP boost and 80+ MPG. Sell R32. #duhwinning
In all seriousness, sell the R32 while you can still get your money out of it. Use that money and swap an M50 into your E30. The E30 is stupidly cheap to maintain. The VW isn't.

Coming from a Volkswagen mark4 background I can comment on this: i used to own a 20AE GTI, and my buddy an R32. We frequently swapped cars and still go on drives all the time - there is great onramps / offramp driving around where we live. My GTI was rear ended and totalled which allowed me to pick up an e30 m3 as my daily driver. Same scenario, lots of small things need to be fixed and I dont have the time to work on the car for the majority of the work.
My friend with the r32 would now gladly trade me his car for mine although I never would and when we ride shotgun in each others cars, the old BMW out performs his r32 and is way more fun to drive because the front end doesnt push on heavy throttle out of corners.
He is ready to get rid of the r32 since riding in the m3 and is now looking at a porsche. While the r32 was a good car for VW in the era it came out, its still a vw and will require maintenance as time goes on. The torque converters will get softer and rear slide will only upset them more as the tire wear. I havent seen your e30, but I'd say keep it and continue to enjoy it, otherwise the next guy will.
As far as buying a prius, I'd go for a small pick up and tow the bikes to the track. Im looking for a good small pickup for trailing my zx6r to local socal tracks as well. Cheers!

this has been an interesting read.
I couldnt agree more with the drive by wire shit. I hopped in my boys 2010 mazdaspeed 3 and the gas was totally disconnected from the car. I did not like it at all. Then when he got in my car he said the gas is soooo heavy.haha
I think you and me are similar in that we just have more of an attraction with old, simple, well balanced cars. The e30 is a car I will own for a ooong time. New cars really dont even get me excited. Theyre way to heavy, cost a lot, and need major maintenance a lot sooner than brand new cars should ever need. They also handle like marshmallows and have so much computer bullshit it doesnt allow you to spin tires or lock up all 4 when braking. Keep the e30. youre probably almost done fixing the little problems with it.m20 is plenty. im simply a drifter.
