Hmm I would like that plate he mounted the cover to.

    Cool stuff otherwise.

Wait ..... what about your E30 diff into 2002 case?

At those prices ..... there are a lot of other options but if that works for you then go for it.

I am still going ahead with the original plans for my build. How ever if your m20 makes a shit ton of power (unlike mine) it will go threw e21 and modified 2002 diffs at a huge rate of speed!!! I know a guy who has a 2002 with a turbo m20 that went threw 9 e21 diffs. Thats why you would want this set up.

That diff mounting plate would be sooo easy to build your self.

deutschman - Think you missed my point. What I was trying to say is that there are a few ways to get the E30 med. case diff to work with either the 2002 subframe or the E30 subframe, takes a little patience and a bit of fabricating skill.

Either way Rob's solution is nice, for a price.

that can only come from driving like a retard!!! You would have to try to do something like that. I used to beat the living crap out of my old e21 323Is back in the day and never had a single problem.

                  ^^I think it's a little relative.

For example, I shot this picture this afternoon of the underside of a Groma Race Fab. 2002. They've swapped in an entire E30 rear subframe.

no. a turbo m20 that puts out a lot of power can go threw e21 diffs fast. i am sure he could have changed the fluid more but i dont think it was because of his driving.

As your probably finding out there is give and take with everything, what might work for you might not be so hot for someone else.

Take the E30 subframe option for example, yes is changes the track width slightly, but in exchange you have stronger trailing arms, a subframe that was made for that size diff in the first place, and you have the ability to run a rear disk brake setup using BMW components. You can't really say one is definitively BETTER than the other.

Oof, I too wish I had more time for the projects, certainly learning to make the most of it.

I was actually thinking of doing a e30 sub frame in my 2002. I probably will in the future. It really just comes down to the space I have to work with. I barrow room from my dad in his garage (I live in an apartment) so buying welders and other large fabrication tools is out of the question now. The things I could do with a bit more room. I just cant wait!

i use to help out at Rob's place all the time when I was in SLO. His love and dedication for BMW's is obvious in his work. You can buy this with confidence.

I agree this is a nice piece but you are still HP limited by the little 2002 outer CVs and unless you spend another grand or so on billet stub axles and hubs those two items are known to be weak plus they are 40 years old.

My current plan for my 02 is a narrowed E30 rear end complete. PPF in Sweden make custom halfshafts for less than a grand.
