Notification of license suspension and 2k bail?!

So I rode home with my girlfriend for the weekend and when we get there my dad tells me about having a letter from superior court. I look at it and it says as of 10/11/11 action was taken and bail raised to $1875 and my license suspended?

And all of this because it says I hadn't acted on a fix it ticket back in April. Which is false. I have scans of the ticket which the officer that checked the corrections had signed and stamped or whatnot. I also sent the related documents with the original ticket and the check for the processing fee. And I have the tracking number from the certified US mail thing that shows that it was signed for and received by long beach court by the designated date. I never got anything back or any notifications but I never got anything added to my record or whatnot. And then randomly now I get this?! For the same violation? Anybody have an idea whats going on here?

Fix it by the way was my registration was out of date at the time. But I have all documentation showing that they received it and the clerk I spoke to before I mailed it told me thats all I needed to send… Thoughts? Little concerned here

Just go to court with all your paperwork, mail slip, scanned paperwork, and so on, and the court will sort it out for you.
Nothing to be worried about if you did what you were suppose to do.

I would highly recommend considering having a lawyer look in to it. May seem like overkill, but the county i used to work in (live on the border of two counties) had a no-pay no-leave policy when it came to fines and court costs. If you had a bench warrant out and showed up at a court house without a lawyer or the money to pay it off you went to jail. Same thing if you got a speeding ticket and couldn't pay it on your court date. Once there if someone didn't pay your bail you served out the sentence for whatever you were found guilty of. They wouldn't take credit/debit but had an atm in the lobby with a $6 per use service fee. Highway robbery.

The county i live in isn't like that, but had i never been to court there i would never know the policy.

Thats the problem though, I live in San Diego :| going to Long Beach for this is like ridiculous. And plus I need my car before then. I figure it's just a misunderstanding but still. All I have is the receipt with the tracking number the envelope with everything in it and a scanned copy of the ticket. I didn't think to copy the rest of the documents because.. Well my car was registered. And there is no way I can pay that money, neither can my family.

Court sent my gf a letter for a $1,000 ticket.
The rightful person had the same name as my gf and somehow got mixed in the system.
Roll up to the courthouse and explain with your proof, you'll be fine.

But do I have to go to the Long Beach courthouse specifically? I imagine I do but I'm not familiar with how it all works. And I'm confused as to why this happened now. Because if I hadn't responded to the fix it, it would have been issued or whatever back in July. And I had been pulled over a few months ago and nothing happened then. Just seems really fucking weird that it would take like 4 months or more and then this happen.

I had almost the exact same thing happen to me this year. Had a speeding ticket summer of last year, went to traffic court, yadda, yadda, yadda. Had 3 months to pay off the fine, but got a late notice 2 weeks before it was due saying that they would revoke my license if I didn't pay. So I went down the next day, paid it completely off and was told everything was good. Flash forward to this summer, I get pulled over for not having a front plate and the officer tells me I also don't have a license. GREAT! It had been revoked, but then reinstated, with the aside that I had to pay $75 to actually get it reinstated. Local DMV couldn't do anything and I never bothered to contact the state about it. Annoying as fuck though since I did NOTHING wrong.

Yes. You'll have to go to the Courthouse that they issued it from more than likely.

My wife used to work for the Oregon DMV and heard stories like this every day. With bureaucracy comes constant confusion, mistakes, and frustration.

Yeah thats kind of what I'm thinking it is/hoping dear god it is. It concerns me though how it says "As a result of your failure to appear…" But I'm like 99% positive we never received anything from the courthouse after I sent in the paperwork and everything :|

make sure to hide a cuff key...

But for real...the large gov/legal system can wreak havoc on those individuals without an in. If only you knew someone who would "take care of it" for you.

I would try to do as much as possible over the phone in advance so that you minimize chances of a bad outcome. Remember you have notice and due process rights. Inform yourself and then calmly make sure those handling this matter honor your rights.
