Anyone use these products before? My m20's got about 130k on the odo, figure a little cleaning couldn't hurt. Anyone know if these would be safe to use and how specifically to use them (i.e. what vaccum hoses to put seafoam down, what to replace besides oil filter after all the shit becomes dislodged when using auto-rx, etc.) Never used either of these and definately want to use them safely and effectively. I found a seafoam write-up here http://forums.nicoclub.com/how-to-se...y-t126583.html. Any reason to use one over the other?

Ive used Seafoam before on my m20, was a hilarious sight to see all the white smoke poof out. Also confirmed my suspicion of exhaust leaks lol.
Use the vac line of the FPR to suck it into the mani.

Ive done it on a few e30's. You use the vaccum hose coming off the fuel pressure regulator to the intake manifold, if you stand on the passenger side you will see it. You pull it off the front side of hose an dip it into the can. Car will try to stall, keep it revving. Poor some in the oil and gas. Just do this before an oil change and when you are low on fuel. After you have sucked up 1/3 in from VAC hose, 1/3 goes in oil, and rest in gas tank. Go for drive till no more smoke then drive another few minutes. You have to let it idle before the drive for a bit so keep that in mind
When done change oil=profitComment

Seafoam hot soak + oil change makes a happy girl.
FPR vacuum hose is the only one you need. Get the engine nice and hot first. You must stall the engine as the bottle empties (either choke it with seafoam or pop the clutch) and let it soak for a half hour! Then drive it through all the rev ranges.
I've never put any in the oil/crankcase it will just thin out the oil.

I used Auto Rx on my 1.8t and seafoam on my VR6.. it was more fun doing it on the VR6haha... anyways I had a a stuck fuel injector on my "new" E30 and seafoam clear it up... just remember that even if you put seafoam in just the intake it will still get into the oil so change it and DO NOT REV TO REDLINE it thins out the oil that it flows like waterComment

Fun thing to do.
Take seafoam, put into a shot glass, light on fire. Burns off naptha and alchohol (Exactly what your motor will do when pulled through the intake)
Remaining residue is 100% petroleum oil. Putting saefoam in the intake dislodges the carbon because of the naptha, absorbed into pale oil, and then the oil is burned up, and then out the back (All the smoke). The alcohol in it is primarily for injectors and fuel system.
If you get it in your oil from the intake, you have a serious problem you need to take care of.
If you put it in your oil, it evaporates the naptha and alchohol out, just like the intake. It will not make your oil run like freaking water. But seafoam is not something you want to drop in your oil anyways. Naptha and Alchohol dissolve the oils, not just thin it out.
This truly is apples to oranges. Auto-RX in you oil. Seafoam in your intake and fuel.Last edited by TurboJake; 10-26-2011, 10:01 PM.Comment
