    I'm Frustrated!

It's been a while guys, between work, college, and doing a lot of work with my car recently. The reason I write today is because my driver side door is being a bitch! I rebuilt the lock cylinder, which had a key broken off in it. I was able to rebuild the new cylinder with some innovative tactics, mainly mangling it beyond recognition...Well that leads me to the whole point of this post, I cannot lock or unlock my driver side door from the door itself. Only from the trunk and passenger side door can I lock and unlock. Could this be an issue with the "Central Locking Unit", I've heard this lies behind the driver side kick panel speaker? Has anyone ever heard of this issue, if so would you kindly assist me with this bitch of a problem? Any advice, thoughts, and hands on experience would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks as usual :D

Mines been like that since I bought it... But yes, you fucked it up. Probably why its not working. Why is it such a big deal though? Doesn't bother me at all.

It sounds like you must NOT have gotten the rebuilt lock cylinder attached properly/completely to the mechanism in the door.

Note how the arm on the inside of the lock fits into the slot on the locking mechanism inside the door.

OP, do you mean you can't move the lock knob up and down? If so, you can only lock the door this way with the door closed. I also think if you "double lock" it with the key, you won't be able to use the knob, but I'm not positive on that part.

Sort of OT question, but would this be the cause of strictly not locking? I've never really looked too deep into it, but my central locking works fine. It's when I lock the door it doesn't "trip" the central locking, and the driver door will just lock itself. It's also difficult to turn when locking, although I don't believe it's the lock cylinder.

Wait...so you use your trunk to unlock your car?

                      Welcome to owning an e30.
The first car I ever rode in was an e30

I forgot I made this post, but for the record I should have been a bit more specific. I meant that I removed the old lock cylinder and rebuilt with another kit. The mangling that I mentioned involved cutting the back half of the cylinder off to push the key through the other side.
