OP's a dumbass. With decent tires or a halfway competent driver that probably wouldn't have happened. I personally loved my e36, and even with all the work that's been done to my e30 it still doesn't hold a candle to how well the e36 handled.

I own both and I wouldn't at all say that an E36 is a bad thing at all. E30 is more fun to drive though - I will concede that.

I made this thread simply to see peoples opinions on both cars. I only used my recent unintentional event to break the ice. I personally liked both cars equally for different reasons. I admitted before Im not the best of drivers, but for the record, that was my only accident ever.

Fair enough, though the general opinion of e36's by most of this board has been pretty well documented.

Ok my opinion. Scratch that, FACT.

e36 is faster than an e30. S50 for s50, e36 is still faster. E36 is more predictable than e30,will always lay down more contact patch than e30. (which makes your story flawed). E36 rear suspension is far superior to e30.

And thats all there is to it.

Would I trade my e30 for e36 M3? Thought about it, but probably not.

I think a lot of the pro E30 talk is really to do a lot with the fact that the E30 has a much sportier stock suspension setup compared to the E36.

My E30 318iS absolutely runs rings around my E36 328i (euro alloy block) for agility when it was stock.

Both the cars have M-Tech suspension from factory and the E30 had a much more neutral balance whereas the E36 had a much greater tendency to understeer. However, now that the E36 is on Eibach springs the E36 handles much better as the car feels much more neutral.

Not to mention the fact that the E36's body structure is MUCH stiffer than an E30 but is also heavier.

I also find that the E36 is much more stable at very high speeds as well.
            Leo.

Cool story man. Here's my story: Today I got a girls number while driving my IX. That's right, she liked my rusty, stock ride height, noisy IX. That's my cool story.

hahaha. thats priceless. i bet the 3rd car (the car behind both of u) was like WTF is on the road and slowed the hell down in that spot. i kinda agree with other ppl tho..u shouldnt be driving a lsd car in the rain and be surprised if it slips out. especially on a 360 turn

but i guess it happens. happy to hear u made it out of this one
m20 is plenty. im simply a drifter.

Now lets flash forward to 2011 when I have an E30, about a week ago right after it rained. I took the same exact onramp at the same speed and lost control, only this time.. the E30 didnt fail me and I was able to steer out of it!

So what did I learn from all this??

And you somehow thought this story would impress us? Go get a civic or something those are obviously better because it won't spin out.

This guy has it right, personally I would love a nicely set up E36, however, I think the E30 is more fun to drive and looks better.

E30 is less commonplace, and more interesting. Doesn't hurt that it's also 400lbs lighter.

E30s have much nicer lines, a cool interior that doesn't look dated, and awesome visibility. E36s drive smoother and have similar handling despite being a heavier, larger car.

I've had 3 e36's. And I vow to never get another one. Don't get me wrong the e36 is a machine, I just feel like the e30 gives more road feedback. Feels more lively. E30 or bust.
I want a nice set of smoked MHW's (I know, get it line)
