    Race Harness Question

    Okay so I grabbed a 5pt cam-lock harness. I have plans for a rollcage/harness bar obviously, but I was considering mounting to the rear seatbelt mount for the time being. My harness is the kind where the shoulder straps come together in a V behind the seat and are meant to be bolted to a roll bar/cage. My question Is can I get another strap and extend this back there or would that be stupid?

    Dont thread bash on not being the smart thing to do for on track, this is just for like driving to the tuning shop and not mounting the shoulder straps to the floor mounts like some idiots.

    That would be stupid.

    But as you said, better than mounting to floor.

    But my question is. Why? It's not a track car...

            Its gonna be a club loose drift/weekend auto-z/hpde when I can afford it/saturdays in countryside PA cruising car.

            Its a fucking turbo e30 I woulda gone s52 if I wanted a modest reliable DD haha.

              Would I have to get a provision welded on for the bolt in factor of the harness?

                Nope. Bolts in to where the OEM Seat belts do.

                    I don't know about you guys, but when I decide I need harnesses in a track car, I'm gonna do the whole shebang because improperly mounted harnesses and fixed backed seats lacking any rollover protection kinda scares me. Call me paranoid all you want...

                        Yeah and I agree. If your gonna shell out any money at all Id rather it be money that could potentially save my life, not end it.

                          The longer the strap, the more it will stretch upon impact and better chance for injury.

                            The way I see it, in a car with a roof, a cage does more for chassis rigidity rather then crash protection, if you are only doing auto-x type stuff with the car. Unless you hit something immovable at high speed, or land upside down after falling a distance, a cage won't do much more for protecting you then if it wasn't there. If you roll a car in auto-x on flat ground, you aren't going to cave in the roof and pancake the car.

                            That being said, you have to ask yourself if a cage would benefit you or if a roll bar would be enough for your needs.

                              As some others have said, suck it up and get the roll bar. I went into the deep end with a roll bar, Sparcos, and harnesses and it wasn't cheap but it's the better way to go then what you were originally thinking, or using a harness bar.
