    Just got some coilovers, finally

    I got a set of coilovers made for a E36 325i ´91 :)
After inspection these are the specs and information on the kit

    front
    "6 springs : 350lbs
    spring movement : "1,6
I don´t know what the highest setting will lower it but we will find out :)

The spring sits on a threaded aluminum hat that sits on the strut where the shock fastening nut is, I don´t think this is like the GC kit as it sits on the collar or is welded on the strut, but since this works on a E36 it has to work on a E30 as well : threads inner dimentions are "2.6 so it will fit over the E30 strut, the springs don´t really go down the struts unless the perches are moved down,

    rear
    "6 springs : 450lbs
    spring movement : "1,2
The problem here is that the thread thing is fastened with a nut to the E36 spring seat, and the E30 spring seat has a nub sticking out that is to big for this unit to fit over it, but a machine shop will fix that for me, and it will fit perfect,

Final conclusion : I dig this,
Springs are some Racing something or other, but that is not the point, I can always get better springs and I will if the need rises, Demon Tweeks will provide them any rate and diameter and any length as well :)

    Front shocks are Koni sports,
Rear shocks will be Spax externally adjustable

Finishing time for suspension is late spring, that means all bushings will be done,
plastic in the rear subframe or polyurethane,
Then I will be able to tell you my conclusion on using a E36 Coilover setup for a E30 with minor mods,

That's the set of spring rates that I have 350/450 it's very streetable, some bumps are a little bit intense, but the ride is surprisingly smooth for the rate of the springs

Yea I knew you had so I wasn´t turned away from those rates,

but what are the lengths you have on the springs

Tell us more. How much does the kit cost? What kind of quality? What the range of drop? What brand, etc? Within the next few months, I'll be lowering my e30, I just haven't figured out what springs etc to go with. Let us know. If quality isn't compromised and cost isn't much more, it would be fun to adapt an e36 coilover kit to an e30.

Also, to the MODS - can you move this thread to a more appropriate category such as tech or general? Thanks.

It´s a E36 coilover kit original cost was $80 on ebay or somthing,
I paid about $250 for the deal, but that is fine since it´s the cost after shipping fees, tariffs and customs and VAT(24,5%)

Quality of the perches and hats and alluminium threads is quite good, I thought it would be crap, since the kit was so cheap, They are R1 E36 coilovers, I found R1 coilovers on retail for $299 so it can´t be that bad,

I haven´t used the kit so spring sagging isn´t known norsprings quality

I will give you all the details when I start using them, but that is
new carpet, re upholster seats, paint inside the car and trunk and suspension bushing away from happening along with new steering rack I have and some other minor things,

But what I was really buying where the perches, hats, and threads, springs are easy to get

I've been wasting time at work reading up on different coilover/spring perch installs. I came across the following ground control install. http://www.nissanperformancemag.com/...spension.shtml

I like the way they use the tape and silicon instead of the rubber rings. It seems to be a better way to maintain a quiet, solid feeling suspension versus rubber rings. I thought you might be interested in seeing this. Let us know how your install goes.

I am all for improvements so I will definitly be trying that,

the thing with these e36 coilovers in the front is that they don´t slide down the collar but stop on top of the strut, "sitting" there, but I will definitly be trying the silcone and tape trick,

does anyone have front lengths on e30 coilover springs as these are just "6
if I need I will have the threads moded to slide down the struts, but I like the short springs, I know stefáns coilovers can touch his 7,5x16 ET25 wheels as he has KW modded struts, and his springs are way longer then mine and have helper springs,

I will run the konis front stiff as hell if needed or get stiffer springs ,

Do you have a picture od the spring location vs. the strut

That way I can see if the E36 setup is going to work at all or needs more modding

Bryson - which coilovers do you have? Are they ground contro or something else? Also, I've heard of a few e30's using OBX e36 coilovers. Does anyone know anything about this - spring rates etc?

Gunni - Any progress on the spring install?

Bryson - tell us more about your suspension set up. Enquiring minds want to know.

                        I know of a few E30's with OBX's. The rate is 275/350.

in my mind all of these spring rates are pretty low. when i plan on doing coil overs the springs are going to be around the 600 or so range. insight would be good on this guys.

sorry about the delay, they're ground controls, I also have the IE subframe bushings (have fun removing your old bushings Gunni ;) ) um, I don't know if you care, but I have RD sways..

edit: pertaining to what grapedrink said, I'd get 450/600 if I could do it again. Also, if you are affiliated with a BMW shop, order through them.
