Small block or LSx due to cheap factor f you're looking for

    Or turbo your motor

It will always be cheaper if you buy someone's swap

M30 weighs the most, that's for damn sure. The M50 and S50 are going to be pretty close to each other, negligible differences.

Turbo variants will depend on the build.

              M30 is 8lbs heavier than an M50, S50 is 19lbs heavier than an M30.

Actually the M30 weighs about the same as the M50:

                      M50: 299.829 lb

                      M30: 297.624 lb

Those weights are from BMW themselves. And although "short block" sometimes refers to just the block (without the head), with BMW it is actually the whole engine as shown in the picture.(I verified this with BMW) Any other difference in weight when the engine is actually installed and running would come from other parts such as manifolds, flywheel, water pump, alternator, etc. The weights of those items are here:

                      and

..and the differences in those weights are pretty insignificant. If you really want to get technical compare how much oil each of the engines takes too. But again this is rather insignificant compared to the engine weights which are about the same.

Lets put a stop to this M30 weight rumor spreading.
