Just me weeping in the corner. :(

I dropped my car off at Castro's to get the rack and pinion and a new power steering pump done along with some suspension maintenance. While he was test driving it, it the timing belt went out and I am now $$$ poorer as a result. You may commence with the empathetic, "that sux man"'s :(

Well, I am really on the fence about it. I cannot afford ANY service right now. BUT if I have to drop significant coin on a head rebuild all to end up with a car worth MAYBE $5-5.5k (on a good day) perhaps I SHOULD find a way to come up with 4x that head build money to drop an S52 in and be left with a car worth perhaps as much as 8-10k. Investment-wise it makes sense I just don't think I can find the cash to pull it off. :/

put the money into a M/S5x swap. if you cannot afford the S52 right now, swap in an M50TU. cheaper engine, and the wiring is all done when you source the motor. makes it a less than one day job to get the more powerful engine. M20's are plentiful as well, you can also just source a replacement engine (possibly with warranty) do the basic maintenance, and save coin over a reman head.

Yeah I would just buy a new M20 for like $5 and a chicken sandwich. After looking at M50 dynos... an m50 isn't really worth the money when you look at the performance gained

just drop another M20 in it and call it a day. They're like $400.

There should be another 50% off sale for christmas. COme out to $88 if you remove everything (manifolds, flywheel, wasser pump, etc). Then you put in a new water pump, timing belt, cap rotor, seals, spark plugs etc. So about $400 in total you have a nicely serviced m20 that will be ready to go another couple hundred thousand miles. Why did you not service your timing belt before suspension? A heart is more important then an elbow.

I'm not intending this to be mean at all. But this is why we always say on here.
Timing belt>every other maintenece part. Even if the car has a locked up wheel bearing.

                              Sucks.
