We don't often post images of crashes where someone died, but there's a lesson in this tragic crash that claimed two young Australian men earlier today about fast cars, young people and alcohol.

great pic. i don't see how thats possible. rescue team cut that side off the car? still, i can't make any sense out of it. the damage to the car doesn't match the side laying on the ground. there are apparently two driver side front wheels. there are no tire marks in the grass of the oncoming lane. how can the car be that f-ed up and the ds so intact? staged?

i think the only way to explain this would be to say that the driver was going backwards down the right lane at 80-100 miles an hour, ran off the road and rear ended a palm tree?

I didn't think of that. They did say the passenger was ejected and the driver was burned in the car. The spokesman speculated that both died instantly.

no, its the driver side. look at the way the door opens.

edit, ok, you are right because the story says perth, austrailia. but it still appears there are two left front wheels.

Your asuming the car hit the tree head on. It could have spun and hit the tree backwards, bursting the fuel tank, and causing the explosion/fire they talk about. So that could be the rear passenger side wheel, or if it is upside down the rear drivers side wheel.
There have been a few crashes I have seen pictures of where the car was cut cleanly into two pieces.

maybe, but there are still two left front wheels.
That's the passenger side. Aussie cars are right hand drive.

Something doesn't add up here... That front quarter is way too straight to believe it was cut by a palm tree. You would think it would have crumpled in at least a little bit.

If this is real, RIP to the loss of life. However, I have a hard time believing this one.

Maybe it is fake who knows but that would be miserable to come across an accident like this. Publicity stunt to deter drinking and driving but they did release names correct.

Not fake sadly, they had it on the news post-accident.

It was a VE Holden Commodore and there's more pics/film footage of the wreck here: http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-...verside-drive/

How the hell the side detached I don't know, but this is what it detached from:

From pf: "Tom went to a friends house last night near UWA, started drinking vodka + mother, then mixed in Nodoz and lsd. His family live in northam, and his sister was on her way down. Somebody called an ambulance for him as he was fucked off his head, and his friend that was in the car was having physcotic breaks. Plan was for his younger sister to meet them at the hospital after the ambulance got them at around 1am. She gets there, then recieves a call saying he wasn't home when the ambo's arrived. She drove around the western suburbs until 3am before crashing at my house. Her mum came to get her at 5, and then the mother went to ID the body at 6am."
