I paid $1200 for my vert, put about $1500 in timing chain, gaskets, clutch, seals. Then put in $1300 in Bilsteins/GC and $250 for Kopis and $600 in star specs, then $600 in the new top.
Probably 6k. I've had it 5 years so not really that bad. But it's getting an S52 and paint job so i guess i'll be up to $10k by the end of the year.

I don't think any of us fail to realize the value of our cars on the market. The real value is what they are worth to us; and this is why we can justify the expenses in restoring and modifying them.

The private party value for a 1992 325 convertible with essentially all options, in what is considered perfect condition with 150,000 miles
                2900.
And none of your cars are in perfect condition. or a 92.

The truth is, most of your cars are worth under 2k on on the used market. Those are the ones with coilovers or something outstanding.... because a 87 e30 with 210,000 is actually not worth 500 in perfect condition....
And contrary to any e30 propaganda ( believe me on the celica forum they all talk about how their 1993 celica is worth 4k) the kbb value of e30s is falling so fast kbb lists its values as very doubtfull. Kbb values are based on what the sale values went for in the previous year, and the average price fell so much its listed as dubvious. And you dont have to have any doubt as to what that predicts for the future.

I think cars are great but were talking figures, and talking about ignoring figures and ignoring 500 pound gorrillas in the room. Everyone wants to live in denial of the value of a 20 year old car.

You seem to be seriously delusional. do you think we put this money into our cars as an investment? Did you actually think you were gonna make a profit from these cars, or even make your money back. Hahaha. We don't do this for money, we don't do this for an investment, we do it because we love the cars. While other people blow their money at the bars or on drugs or parties, we spend our weekends shoulder deep in our motors replacing a part neglected for years. Why? Because we are e30 owners, we are not rational money mongering old farts, well some are, we are drivers, racers and backyard technicians we do this for the love of the car, not love of our wallet.

I can't even put a dollar amount on mine, especially when I restored my A/C system. But it doesn't really bother me because I didn't have plans to flip this car when I bought it. It has been an excellent car to me and definitely worth my money that I have invested into it. I am sure a majority of the owners on here can say the same thing.

You have nothing to worry about lol. When you start spending 4,5,6...10x what you paid for a car, then you really start not wanting to think about it lol

I have a black folder, tucked away in a drawer in my room full of receipts an invoices. I will not dare start adding things up, but If anything were to happen I have all the records to present to the insurance....knowing I will get low balled anywayz.

I bought my current project knowing I will not sell it and am fine with all the money it will suck up. I like being broke I guess lol

I have over $6k into my car, including the purchase price. I have a spreadsheet somewhere detailing all the little purchases, then I lost track when I bought a new money-pit...a house.

Most of my money was spent on maintenance items, and the "while you are in there" type of things. Major stuff was complete suspension upgrade/refresh, 2 clutch jobs, new interior, tires.. I can't even begin to list everything.
All that and my car's appearance has not even been addressed. Still need rims, bodywork and paint before I will be satisfied.

Like the others stated, I did not buy this car as an investment. I bought it to keep my mind off of everything else in life
