Thoughts on the newest 3 series

What are you guys thoughts on the new 3's design, four banger, and electric steering. I am kinda fond of the new grills and lights. The four banger isn't something I would be really excited about but maybe its legit.

That 4 banger is .02 seconds slower than the 6 and gets better mpg......If I could afford a 328i, I would have one.

I'm reserving ultimate judgement until I see a 335i coupe or an M3, but as of right now I'm not a fan of it, mainly because of the front end and the size increase.

Electric steering, 99% of the time sucks. I'm hoping BMW's is better, but considering their hydraulic steering is recent models is more lifeless than my Caprice beater, my hopes aren't high.

Turbo 4 is nice; I just wish the car it was in was better. I do want to drive one, just to see what it's like. Probably not as revvy as I'd hope for though, considering the only really good way to make a 4 smooth is to add inertia...

The styling really does nothing for me. The e90/91/92/93 is only okay, to me, although I think the 2006 330i sport with the blackline tails looks wonderful. Exception to the rule though, really.

Overall, I'm pretty much expecting it to be very nice inside, high tech, fantastically overpriced, and not much of a driver's car. Basically, a Mercedes.

the electric power steering in the BRZ/FR-S is getting rave reviews. i have yet to hear about it in the new 3 series though. so its not always bad with EPS.

The last great 3 was the e46.

The 2012 3 Series from BMW: The Ultimate Driving Simulator. it looks and feels like your driving, but your not. ethrottle, esteering, ESC, DSC, HIV, TCS, ABS, auto braking, lane departure warning, blindspot intervention. etc

I know talking about the subject of cars doing all the driving for you is like beating a dead slave at this point, but really, you can't call it the "Ultimate Driving Machine" if there's no actual driving involvement.

^ good point. This is where I am a fan of the 1M coupe. They stuck to a 2002/E30 heritage. The manual as the only transmission option and the lack of all the computer crap. I got to sit in one and it felt like the cockpit was like a super nice E30 for 2012

we received 2 new F30s this week at work, a 320d Sport and a 328 Luxury.

The build quality of the doors to the rear of the car is identical to an e90. interior is really nice.

BTW, the e90s have had electric steering in alot of the models for many years now.
