breaking away in rain?
very easy if you take hard corners, and don't go slow. throttle on the floor lets one wheel spin easily, and its so slow you might want to drive throttle on floor a lot hahaha.
MPG?
depends on milage.
if i try hard i can get 22MPG but my engine has 275k miles and burns about 5qts of oil a month.... LOL!
and concerning the injection system?
if it's an 83 then the mechanical injection system is kind of a head ache..... i haven't fixed mine yet, its just a hard cold start and needs to be warm before taking off or else i will suffer loss of power.
other than that its all carbed i believe.
ive lost my rear end around many corners in the rain, but i kinda try to now a days because it's so damn gutless it's easy to control and actually kinda fun 8)

Well, to my knowledge the parts are specific to BMW, I've never heard of anyone using VW CIS stuff on these cars. That said, my dad's '79 still has its original fuel injection parts.
the bottom line here is that you want a DD, right? The e21 can't hold a candle to the e30 for that. The HVAC system is worthless. They get crap gas mileage, ( Dad's nearly stock 2.0 gets about 24 mpg highway, my 325i will do 28mpg). Safety wise, the body isn't nearly as stiff as the e30. We've seen several people walk away from very serious accidents in their e30s.--Will

The car was good actually I would thrash the shit out of it every day, and in my 5 years of ownership I never changed the oil or water. Though due to my recklessness the HG went after 5 years and I sold the car.sigpic

[QUOTE=Massimo;2990080]Your not trying hard enough. I had a E21 318i with 500,000km on the clock, and would break that shit out every time it rained. lol
you're right. I never intentionally tried to make the car break loose. I was referring to the gentlemen's concern about the car's safety. Maybe your tires were bald and the rain is a bit more slippery where you're from lol. Anyhow, I also agree with you about these cars being nearly bullet proof. My E21 has nearly 200k on it and is rock solid.Last edited by BavarianSwap; 02-05-2012, 06:46 PM.

the 320i's "improvements" over the 2002 don't add up to a better drive unless you swap them into a 2002!
