Why are slicktops so sought after?

i'd prefer sunrood, but i see all the cons of owning one, especially water leaks.
i would honestly kill someone for a moon roof, one came up on CL around here for $400 and i nearly tracked down and killed the guy selling it, but it had been sold.Leave a comment:

I do like sunroofs and one wouldn't deter me from buying an e30, but I love the clean top of an e30 with no sunroof. Next to the hood probably my favourite surface on the car. The black shut line of an always-ever-so-slightly-misaligned panel in the middle of the roof totally ruins it for me.
This thread makes me want to wash my car and take a shiny pic of the roof. brbLeave a comment:

I don't care for a sunroof, but what I wish we got over here are pop out rear windows... They seriously help with ventilation and IMHO look cool.Leave a comment:

I have opened my sunroof a total of two times since owning the car aside from cleaning. For me they are useless. I would much rather have a slick top.Leave a comment:

I love it when you see car adds that boast some miniscule technical advancement in some new model that improves performance by some infinitesimal amount
as if the driving skill of Joe Blow can exploit thisLeave a comment:

I like the sunroof in my 4 door, it adds more to the experience (love the hand crank, too)
ventilation is improved when you have the back end popped a little. I use it more than I would a marginally better power to weight ratio/lower cgLeave a comment:

Biggest thing is the increase in structural strength.
I don't give a fack though. I love cruising with my windows down, sunroof back, pumping The Scorpions in true 1980s German fashion. :up:Leave a comment:

Not just the 20lbs, but where it is. Up high, making a nice pendulum. You want weight down low, it drops the CG down lower and helps handling a bunch. Also being sunroofless gives more headroom.Leave a comment:

There's a lot of reasons...
Less weight - around 40 lbs
The extra weight of the sunroof is located at the highest point of the car, so the slicktop theoretically would have a lower center of gravity and roll center.
Greater overall chassis rigidity.
More headroom.
The sunroof is a possible point of mechanical failure and broken/worn parts.
The sunroof, the area the sunroof panel sits in, and both the front and rear drains that drain the water that gets past it are highly susceptible to rust.
Slicktop looks better and more minimalist, sporty, or racecar.(subjective)
Slicktop is more rare(fact) and hence more desirable(subjective).Leave a comment:
