I think it looks amazing and no doubt it'll go like stink. Definitely a big improvement over the old one.

I like. I bet it's a stunner in person, too.

While that is both true and awesome, it is funny to me because Motorsport is not about straight power:weight and fast-in-a-line performance... they're about a balanced, well handling car.

But then you combine that with ridiculous power and in a beautiful package such as this and you get a great car. This 6 is worlds better looking than the last.

BMW also introduced the option of carbon ceramic brakes on the F12/13(the gold calipers are used on the M-carbon ceramic brakes, not blue), and they reduce weight by almost 43 pounds. Incredible.

More info and great side by side pics comparing the new F12/13 and the previous model.

Do you know much else about carbon ceramic brakes? I'm curious about the shear strength characteristics... is carbon-ceramic like most ceramics in that it basically has zero shear strength and is brittle as fuck? Generally the harder a material, the more brittle. I'm just wondering if you gave one of those rotors just a decent whack with a hammer would it shatter/fracture like other ceramics?

I'm gonna guess probably not, since they're used on Formula 1 cars, but here's some info on them.

Only those who could afford this car or get the chance to drive one should be allowed to talk shit here. "Too heavy"..."Too big"...."Fat ass"....."Needs another pedal"......What the fuck ever! This car will never be in your garage. So just appreciate it for what it is, a highly advanced achievement in technology and physics. That does look loads less fugly as the E63/64.

              And this...

Right off the back. No rear visibility. Ultimate fail, and no a video camera doesn't make up for it. Lots of weight up high, not to mention its overall weight. Sure its got the brakes to stop the thing, but still. Porsche has been running the carbon rotors for years so I'd guess they are plenty robust.

It is what it is, and no I don't have any interest in driving one. I'd rather take a spin in an E24 m6. That said, I'd rather drive a Porsche 930 Turbo over a GT2 any day of the week as well.

                        I know, it's great isn't it?:D

btw, previous 6-serious was pretty nice looking. everyone loves to hate chris bangle but his influence on car design was immense. and i like most of his designs. for me it goes z4 m coupe > 6 coupe > 7 series, 1st bangle generation > e92 3 sedan > e92 3 coupe. i don't count the SUVs.

that's only part of it. it's in the corners that you realize the difference between a Lotus Elise and a B7. more mass = more momentum = more demands on suspension and tires.

Does it play engine noises through the speakers? I was embarrassed to be a BMW owner when I heard that about the M5.

and i bet you BMW has addressed said demands with a more stout suspension.

But, as I have driven an Elise, these cars are in two different categories. Elise is a fantastic track day car, sucks on the street. No creature comforts, sound deadening material etc. Yes the M6 weighs more but I bet its comfy as fuck and can still throw you back in the seat. I'd have one of these over an elise as a daily any day.

Gotta look at the whole picture and what the car was DESIGNED to do

So is a Cadillac barge. Doesn't make it desirable.
