    Shifter question

I worked on a 5spd Ix a few weeks ago, it got a new steering rack, all new shift bushings and a few other things. The rack required lifting the engine and the shifter bushings lowering the transmission. Car runs and drives great but the owner says it gradually started not wanting to go into first gear. I haven't looked at it yet, but I'm thinking the center console shifted back or the rear bushing/bracket is too far forward (or both). Any other suspects before I tear into it?
The motor lift and tranny drop were done separately so I'm pretty sure they're where they belong.
    Thanks

When they lifted your engine and lowered the tranny, theres a strong possibility that the shift carrier was dislodged from its bracket causing a misalignment of the shifter and shift gate. Check that first.
