    merkur xr4ti?

just got offered a 1988 merkur xr4ti for pretty dirt cheap,
apparently it's a car produced by ford and BMW back in the 80's and suppose to resemble a mustang?
anyone have any experience with these cars? i can't believe i'm considering it, haha, it's so 80's hahahaha.

pictures are not of exact car, but similar paint color.

nothing to do with bmw that i have ever heard of.

Made by ford europe which is better than ford usa. Parts are more expensive that porsches and the bling factor is considerably less.

that car has the aero body, pretty much limited to saabs in the us.

Yeah I've never heard anything about BMW dealing with those. Pretty cool car, but yes parts will be expensive/hard to get from what I've seen.

Superrrr heavy car. But handle boost. My friend actually had like 5 at one point. One had a t88 turbo and would smoke the entire block up. He actually has a shit load of new parts for it too incase you decide on suspension

My first project car was an 1984 Mustang SVO. The rati has the same 2.3L turbo engine as the SVO. My turbo was upgraded to run at 17psi iirc. Once the rpms came to 2k, it was alot of fun. Turbo lag has awful and not a car to be in the rain with. The distributor pinion gear took a crap in mine so the engine was done and I had no more dough to throw at it...while I was i college.

BTW, The engine does come out of a Pinto.

          Mine...

Cool car, hard to find in manual though. I heard it was made to resemble a cosworth escort. Also never heard of any bmw connection either. Looks clean, definitely wouldn't pass on it. Dump the e21.
I want a nice set of smoked MHW's (I know, get it line)

Go for it! They are cool little cars. Despite what many think, parts aren't THAT difficult to source.

same chassis as the Ford Sierra Cosworth. Buy the dual cam from europe(not expensive) and swap it in. I was going to buy this before I found the deal on my E30. I say go for it. Make it all DTM-esq.

I feel like there was a post a while back about Gutenparts digging into one of these. I always thought they were neat and keep my eyes out for a deal. They also had a Merkur Scorpio which was a 4 door sedan that didn't look too shabby.

I certainly wouldn't put your current car on the back burner for it...nor the e21. It seems like forever since your ETA ran and I'd hate to see you get distracted.
