Importing a Euro S50

I looked at bringing in a Diesel engine for my Land Rover a little while ago, unless you know someone who is bringing a container over and you can catch a ride with them its quite expensive.
To bring a compete drive train over as a LCL (less than container load) with packaging and all that jazz it was going to cost around 2500 plus the cost of the drive train.
Look for a s54 locally.Leave a comment:

Alex L. is the way to go. A co-worker of mine got the S50B32 in his E36 M3 from Alex and had nothing but good things to say about him.Leave a comment:

If you're dead set on a Euro S50 contact Alex L. as mentioned above.
If not then go S54.Leave a comment:

This is the way to go if you have your heart set on a euro S50.
It Is an outdated engine though, the big attraction to it was the electrical system is a simple swap into an E30. Now there is standalone engine management that can make the S54 happy and there's ways around drive by wire. Couple that with the age of the euro engines and the lack of availability of low mileage examples... Thats before getting into parts availability and prices.
If you have your heart set on a factory DME for driveability and whatnot, you can get the S50 DME and harness and put it on the S54 with a tune and EWS delete. Then you'll be in business.Leave a comment:

Engines are not that much of an issue these days, but that being said you can't walk into your local dealer and order parts for a NON US compliance pieces. AKA buy special order pieces any more.
S54 swaps will as a result become more of the norm.Leave a comment:

i really dont know much about the process, but from what i understood, customs wont allow the engine unless its for a racing application. also you will have problems with EWS unless you get something flashed, Abrahams motor sports does it though. and then you have to find a good engine without seeing it if you go on your own.
i do remember finding a place that will import them for you and then get them all ready for dropping them in, but it was more expensive.
i think i made a thread about it 2 summers ago...
good luck!Leave a comment:

Where do you get your information?Which S50 are we talking about? S50B30 isn't going to be worth the trouble getting it over here.
S50B32 is pretty much the same motor as an S54B32, only harder to get... and S54 makes a little more power. S54 would be much easier to find, etc.
Why are we thinking about euro S50's again? I forgot

Ah, well if you want it bad enough then there's nothing to stop you. IMO S54 would be better and easier to find one.Leave a comment:
