whats the point of having 3 thermostats

My car gas been running really hot, like 3/4 so im gonna change the thermostat and flush the cooling system.
since summer is around the corner,
Im thinking the 71 degree is the best. Why are there three?

some engines are designed to run with certain temp thermostats. If you run the stock thermostat and its still running hot, you have other issues. A good working cooling system, that's in order, will run perfectly fine in the harshest summer temps.

Don't band aid a bigger problem by putting in a cooler thermostat

Not sure why there's three. When I changed mine my last summer I put the hottest one blunt sells, 80C (At least I'm pretty sure I did, I wish his order conformation emails would have an item list in them). Even during the hottest days (almost 100F) my temp gauge wouldn't go much further than a hair past halfway with the Air Con on. You might have a fault with your cooling system.

The engine only has one thermostat, but it may have 3-6 temperature sensors depending on the model, production date, and whether the car has A/C. The correct thermostat will be the one meant for the engine. A lower temperature thermostat can be installed and may be the correct choice for hot climates. But that has little to do with peak engine temperature under high load conditions. A lower temperature thermostat only means that the thermostat opens sooner. It also means that less cabin heat will be available in cold climates.

If the engine is running hotter than it should be with the correct thermostat installed there is some other problem that needs to be fixed. If it only happens at idle the fan clutch could be bad, the radiator partially plugged, the cooling system gunked up, or the water pump is bad. If it only happens when A/C is in use it could be that or a bad aux fan or bad aux fan controls. If it only happens at speed the radiator, a gunked up cooling system, or water pump become the prime suspects
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Air pockets. Search, there's tons of info about overheating on here.

It could be a majority of problems. Waterpump, lack of coolant , bad fan clutch.

Start with the thermostat. My old ETA did the same thing when i bought it and i ignored it, then I blew the Head gasket.
