    Overseas Engine Shipping.

Found a low mileage S50b32 engine in a local German ad. Seller is willing to ship to the states, but said I must locate the company to ship it. Who here has shipped an engine from Europe before? The only company I can think of is DHL, any other companies/methods people have used before?

It would be on a pallet.
I'm the west coast, which I know adds more to the cost. Thanks r3v.

DHL is cheapest from Europe. Shipped a transmission from Italy back in the day. Shipping ran around $200 to Illinois.

Must've had a hell of a discount. I'll bet they quote you $800+ if you just call for a quote.

You definitely want ocean freight and NOT air freight. See if you can locate a "freight forwarder" that can make arrangements for you.

I live in Germany, where is the engine located (what city)? Perhaps I can help.

Well then how the hell is your $200 quote at all helpful to the OP?

                  :P

These days you'd be hard pressed to find a way to ship an engine to the next STATE for $200.

I worked for DHL for 17 years, and IIRC, the "walk in" customer price for a LETTER to most of Europe was $40-70. It would get delivered in 2-3 days though, but you pay a premium for the quick delivery.

I was recently looking to ship a S50B32 from Germany to the US. The only shipping company that replied to my emails was a place based out of the UK. They wanted 1100(pounds).

I said GTFO and sold the motor locally.

Look for a moving company or something like that, someone who can help you with LCL loads, its not going to be cheap to get it packed up and palatalized though.

I bet its going to cheaper for you to go s54 than ship a euro s50 over to the States.

All the customs brokerage whatnot was a total PITA when I had a pallet shipped to me from the UK. You'll pay probably double, but I'd go DHL air.

We're having 1900lbs of sliding panel glass doors shipped to Oregon right now from the UK. I believe it's around $2k via DHL air. I'd expect around half that for an engine. Find a friend with a commercial DHL account; you'll get a sizable discount.
