I think if the price is right, go for it! I would love a 2002! They are what made me fall in love with BMW's with their center exhaust.

If it doesn't have rust, then you managed to scoop up a treat. Go for it.

from what i've seen no rust, i would need to go to the location to examine in in detail, but ill be gone for half the week next week and thats when its going to be sold. So i'll try to get a friend of mine to scoop it up while im out of town.

pics would help. 2002s go for a really wide range. a friend of mine picked up a 74 2002tii for $700. of course the floors/rockers/shock towers were more rust than metal and it had a few other issues. better condition 2002s i've seen listed for $14-20k. so there are just a few variables there. ;)

check the for sale forum over at http://www.bmw2002faq.com/ might give you a better idea of what a fair price would be.

you need to look at it to see rust. pictures wont tell you anything. check the rear strut towers, drivers floor around the pedals, passenger floor around the heater box and foot area (heater box leaks coolant some times), check the drivers side front fender bottom right side (when facing it) and passengers side front fender bottom left (when facing it) this is where the roof water drains exit. also check around the bottom of the front and rear window right around and under the seals.
keep in mind that unless this car has been restored it will need a really good amount of work even if it looks great right now. i have owned two of them and you never stop replacing failing parts until you have basically replaced everything there is to replace.
if you think it is a good deal go for it. they are super fun. good luck!

14K is perfect tii range and 20+K is 2002 turbo range. if its a really nice minty base model 2002 it could be around 6-8K. I got mine for 2.5K but it needed work.

i know, i'm just trying to let him know that there is a pretty wide range of variables there and a huge price range for 2002s depending on model, condition, etc. :)

plus sometimes buyers/sellers don't really know what they have. my friend went to look at what the buyer said was a 2002 parts car and it ended up being a 2002tii. which he quickly snapped up.

We have a few local 2002's for sale, rust-free, for 500-800, but the paint is thrashed. Then we have a perfect 11/10 all around 2002 for 8k.

Beautiful cars, that's on my list of to gets, I'd pick up a beautiful one here that the guy only wants 800 for it but I got no room for more cars right now.
