Anyone have an idea what this stud is used for?

It is located the outside of the rear attachment point for the front seats.

Shown is the passenger side. What is this stud used for?

Is it where the hook that holds the end of the seatbelt mounts? I might be turned around though.

Its the seatbelt mount for coupes.
Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

What you're seeing is actually the plastic threads of a cap that covers that hole in the carpet for the coupe seat belt mount. One of mine is whole and the other is broken off like that.
