Value of car with blown motor.

Neighbor has a 2 door 90 325i Automatic with 150,000 miles. In good condition overall.

Car was stolen and they cracked the oil pan and continued to drive the car until the motor siezed.

What do you estimate the value of the car at? Is $800 a fair price?

    Thanks
    Andy

$500 or less... but only because if I were going to replace the engine I would want to go ahead and do the 5 speed swap as well so I would need to save some extra monies to do so.

It would also depend on how readily available and costly a replacement M20 would be in your area.

800 sounds steep unless its really clean.

For 800 bucks it better be mint and rust free.

          i got my first e30 (an 87is w/a cracked head) for 750$ :) i don't think i would ever buy an automatic e30... not even for 500bucks.

Pretend the car had a perfectly good motor, and based on other mechanicals and cosmetics, pick a number. Then subtract $2000-2500 because that's what it would cost you to have a shop put in another motor.
I consider a 'pain-in-the-ass' factor applies to the sale price, so unless the body and interior are absolutely mint, it's only worth $300-700.

It is worth more in pieces than whole. If you are willing to spend the time to piece it out, you'll make more money.

What is the color of the interior and exterior?

Being an AT, I'm guessing the car is bone stock with no mods?

Cars like this are really good candidates for conversion to an E30 race car. The engine is going to be rebuilt fresh anyway and the suspension will be totally replaced with a race suspension, so just having a clean donor body is what they are looking for.

Andy-run, don't walk away from your neighbor's car. Don't do what I did and take on a project when in reality e30's are as common as flies in the Western USA and tommorow you will come across one that is manual, actually runs, and where the person dumped some serious money fixing it, and is only selling it for $900 or so.

I now own a 325es non-running parts car where the guy blew his timing belt. I am looking to sell or trade it is a rus0t-free shell for a racing car --it's got bad oxidation on the roof, but underneath the car is so clean you could eat from it. What parts do I sell and what parts do I leave on for the prospective "race car roller/shell buyer"? My guess is sell/get rid of the spoilers (of course), interior, nice Bilstein HDs, eta-motor, OBC, computer, cluster, carpet etc. The dash is cracked (too bad). What exactly are the spece30 people looking for in a car that remains. Ie how do I get my shell ready for the potential race car conversion buyer.
