How to use search to its full potential

Hi there ive have recently been spending more time on the site so gatter more knowledge on my e30. (And to the moderators I hope I put this in the correct fourm) However I have run into a problem, in using the "search" feature. How do I use this feature to its full potential?

P.S. - If i wanted to completely go through my e30 where do I start what do I do? simple or cheap ideas?

Thanks a lot and im hoping to hear back
