    Trying to build my e30

First things first, im 18 broke and got no tools. On that note, im looking for someone to give me quite a bit of help getting my 318i resurrected and get it running and looking good. Looking for local help. Please i have had this thing for almost 3 years now, and havent had the time or the money to get this thing cherry.

So last night I was doing a bumper tuck on my e30 i came into a problem after I drilled out the shocks and installed them back on the car with the front bumper.

    after i installed everything

    1. I noticed a gap all the way around the diving boards now (both front and rear bumpers are compressed all the way)

    2. The front bumper can slide from all the way forward to all the way back.
what should i do? put a screw in the shocks? how do i do so if they are still on the car?

also, I am going to be getting about $500 soon, tell me what you guys think i should do. what are the first things i should spend my money on? coil overs? swap? i was thinking either tune my m10 (i have one in the car & a extra) or get a swap. However if I Get a swap what should I get? i really wanted a m42 but heard bad things. What about the different kinds of the m20? suggestions suggestions!!!!

thanks to everyone. hope to hear back.

Take a look at your car.
Find out what's broken/could kill you.
    Use $500 on that.

Spend that $500 on getting it running and maintenance. You'll be surprised how little money that actually is...

I would say maintenance first, as usual. BUT, you need tools to do that. Go get some.

Or borrow tools.. They could run a lot, and being 19 myself, I know how precious every dollar spent is at that point. Luckily I got my pops tools, so I'm not sweating, but you aren't so fortunate..

When you get tools, do your mantainence; cooling system, vaccum lines, spark plugs, distributor cap, fuel lines, injector refresh. You should only be around $150-200 (that's how much it was for my m20 refresh anyway), so you'll have some leftover. At that point, focus on your suspension; rear subframe/trailing arm bushings, front control arms/bushings, and your brakes if you need them too

see thats the thing, if im gonna start working on my car i wanna pick my engine first. that what i need the help on. The one thing i know about 318i's is that you can easily do a swap in them. so if i was gonna do a swap tell what you guys think i should get thats good for a beginner if i wanted to start tuning. And thats why im trying to find someone local that can help me, I contacted one guy who helped me before and said that he didnt have time however he directed me to R3V and im here now ;)

                    get a job.

jk, but seriously maintenance. Also, make sure your insurance/registration are paid and valid so once it does get running you can drive it.

If you want to mod it, honestly $500 with an M10 car will not get you any power or speed. Chips, cold air intakes, and the like will not yield much. If you get the car running well, and all maintenance taken care of then get yourself some suspension goodies.

                        Fiddle with your m10 first.
Also, with the tuck, that space around the bumper is just what happens when you tuck your bumpers.

If you're gonna use it on a swap, I would save it and buy everything you're going to need all at once. Not only is this cheaper in the long run, its a lot less stressful. Make sure and do all your homework. there is nothing worse than trying to knock out a swap over the weekend and have it ready for work the following monday, just to find out on sunday night that you have the wrong flywheel or motor mounts and now your screwed.
                          re
that being said, I personally would use that money on rutine maintence and the tools needed to do the work. If you do it right(granted you have all the tools) you can replace both front and rear brakes, as well as a minor tune-up for $500

Get the maintenance sorted before you do any more cosmetic "enhancements."

There's nothing wrong with your tucked in boards. The far end are a smaller shape than the original un-tucked length, therefor they will have space when tucked it.

Everyone's boards have that space when tucked
