How much would you pay for custom GPS tracking (for Theft etc)

    Hi,

Just wondering what kind of demand there'd be for a product that can GPS track your car (ala LoJack) but much more custom and intimate. I was going to make one for my car but I could also make more for others if necessary.

Here's some of the features that'd be implemented

    1. Self-powered in case your battery gets cut off. Roughly 2 weeks of battery life once car battery is disconnected.
    2. Uses cell phone network for data so only $15/month or so
    3. Can remotely upload coordinates every 5-10 minutes to a remote server which you can access. This means you can have it log its location so if it's stolen, you'll be able to log into a website and track where it is and where it's been.
    4. Relatively low cost... roughly $400-500
    5. Easy to install, impossible to locate for thieves unless they spend hours stripping the car

    Thoughts?

Don't they have this kinda thing for dogs? Rechargeable collar for about 100 bucks and then its like a $20 a month fee for activation/use.

I think it'd be sick to make something out of the arduino boards that could get hardwired in and send something like simple sms messages of gps coordinates. Doesn't need to be a fancy UI and it could be upgraded pretty easy to be a full function alarm if you were handy with programming.

Oh and that shit would cost less than 150 in parts

Not for good parts like I'd use. And you forget the cost of labor and programming everything and syncing it up with a remote server...
