I owned a 1988 Scirocco 16v for 2 years. Mine was a total piece of shit when I bought it, and it stayed that way until I gave it to my cousin, but it was a blast to drive. Definately the most fun I've ever had in a death trap(I don't mean all Scirocco IIs, just my example).

For me it's like this: you're in a bar, and two women walk in. One is wearing a black designer dress, lots of accessories, 'perfect body', expensive perfume, heels, yada yada... The other is wearing jeans, a T-shirt, and sneakers, and maybe doesn't have a 'perfect' body or face as compared to the American barbie standards. I would be walking out of there with miss jeans and a T.

    .
Wait what if the one in the black dress has a better personality than the simplistic broad??
    Flawed logic is flawed

I personally feel that I'm also turned off by the entire idea that supercars represent. Supercars represent the materialist society that we have become, and in my opinion, everything evil. I think they can be beautiful, and their design can be very impressive, but they are all about being able to buy one and just showing off wealth and power.

For me it's like this: you're in a bar, and two women walk in. One is wearing a black designer dress, lots of accessories, 'perfect body', expensive perfume, heels, yada yada... I would be walking out of there with miss jeans and a T.

Even if I had the money to buy multiple supercars, I wouldn't. I would much rather find an old Porsche or 2002 or 50's truck and restore it myself. I promise you that I would enjoy both ownership and the actual driving five times as much as any supercar owner.

That's just how I feel, different strokes for different folks.

Good question. I've thought about that.

As much as I admire the kind of extremely purposeful design that goes into a supercar, I think the most important thing about cars is the interface between machine and driver- communication and responsiveness. I just like something fun to drive, so- as much as they are incredibly cool and I love them- I don't see myself busting ass to get my hands on a Ferrari 599 when I can have just as much fun in a sub-$40k car. In terms of scale, I think the performance of "lesser" sports cars is the most appropriate match for the average human's senses, reflexes and abilities.

It's kind of like in architecture and urban design, where 3-5 stories is considered a good datum for the height of buildings in a street. Humans can relate to something at that scale. When everything is skyscrapers, it's much harder to relate on a human scale.

I'm probably not saying this so well, but hopefully you get the idea.
