Car got hit & run, what to I do? (Non-e30 content, thank god!)

So the night before last my winter beater, a '94 Suburban 1500, got hit while parked in my driveway, and the guilty party just took off. Fucking asshole. I was staying at the gf's place, but I got a call from my neighbor, and headed over to the house to survey the damage & file a report with the police. I'll have to get a pic up later, but the car was struck on the passenger side and pretty much destroyed the hood, grill, bumper, and all of the lighting on that corner of the car. I live on the top side of an uphill hair-pin corner, it seems clear to me (and to the police) that the culprit was fairly drunk, took the corner too hard, and struck my car before barely avoiding running off the road careening & back down the hill through the woods in my side-yard, towards the beginning of the hair-pin. Now that's shitty, but worse still I took the car off the road a while ago since winter is over and I wanted to sell it, so it is not insured...

I had the car for sale because I wanted something smaller and more economical, but still utilitarian. It has a salvage title already, but ran & drove fine, and will probably still run & drive since nothing mechanical was damaged. I really don't think it'd be worth it to fix it on my own dollar, I (obviously) really hope the cops find the fucker and he/she has to pay up, but I'm not gonna hold my breath on that one. I do live in a REALLY small town, and my house is on a road that accesses a pretty small neighborhood, but who knows who this person was, and where they were coming from/going...

What do you guys suggest I do?

Maybe home insurance will cover it. If it is not a licensed vehicle, its no different then a couple grand lawn ornament I guess.

Yep, filed a claim with my renters insurance provider this morning, I have a feeling they're not gonna be super psyched to help me out, but time will tell...

Not much you can do. You can fix it up and sell it or just sell it the way it is and let someone else deal with it. Either way, shit happens and its only $$

Have a feeling unless you have a storage policy on it you are hosed. I keep fire and theft and vandalism on my non-op/storage cars for reasons listed but I'd be up the creek in your situation.

Ask your neighbors and other people who live around you if they have any video surveillance equipment. They could have caught the car before or after the accident.

sounds like its time to send it to the yards.....

Most likely the cops wont do shit for you for finding the offending douchebag that hit the car. best thing the police report does is cover you in case said douchebag tries to say you hit them instead......

Yea, it may end up being an expensive lesson learned, but I always keep some sort of insurance on anything that could be destroyed by someone more incompetent, I have three vehicles, two of which are full coverage and then just like you a truck I am selling which has a custom coverage which pretty much only covers those test driving it or running into it while its parked

Never knew there was such a thing, where can I find this, for future reference? Maybe I'll part it out and put the motor in the e30...

They did mention that someone might try to call it in, once they wake up & overcome what was undoubtedly a massive hangover. To be fair the cops were really awesome the whole time, and as I mentioned before I live in a very small town, maybe 1200 people. Later, a second set of cops came by the house to check out the damage, so clearly the guys I talked with at 8am on their shift felt bad for me & made the effort to get the information out there. The cops said stranger things have happened, but I'm not planning on them finding the cockgobbler that did it, nor getting anything from insurance.

That's the unfortunate truth about like 90% of things like this.
The first car I ever rode in was an e30
