    New Member/Wheel Question

    Hi,

I'm a new member here, since I just picked up a 1991 318i (4-door) for my fiance last month. I've had 2002's and drive a '97 328is now, but I've never had an e30 and I'm thrilled to finally have my hands on one.

It needs some work, though, so I'm sure I'll be posting questions in the technical forums, but for now I have a question about getting new wheels for this car. I'm putting new springs in that will lower it about an inch - will 16" wheels look ridiculous? Should I stick to 15" if I don't want to get a super low profile tire?

    Thanks for your help!

15" and 16" wheels both look good on E30s. 16" is not too big at all, as long as you run appropriate tires. In my opinion, 16" wheels look best with a 45 ratio sidewall on these cars.

Do a little searching here and you should be able to find hundreds of pics of both size wheels on E30s.

16's will be fine. People even run 17's and a few run 18's. It's really all about what you like the best. I honestly like 17's the best.

You can not say a 45 sidewall looks good without recommending a tire width. The sidewall height and tire width numbers work together.

Correctly sized and most commonly used tires are 205/50/16 or 225/45/16.

Agreed. 17s, to me at least, only look good with a car that is pretty well put together aesthetically. If the exterior is mostly pretty drab and it has a set of 17s I feel like it pulls to much attention to the wheels. 18s only look good on a select few E30s.
