No, its not the bill of sale.

Found it here. Just write in the expensive stuff that it needs like engine, transmission, bodywork, brakes etc.

Here in Canada over 15 years old it needs to be appraised by a used car dealer. Translation: A wink and 50 dollar bill to a sketchy dealer and he just appraised your car a giant heap of scrap.
On the flip side, I sold an 02 car to my parents for a dollar. We were trying to fill out the paperwork for giving a car to a family member and the lady at the counter said,"This is stupid just sell it to them for a dollar." Taxes came out to 13 cents and yes, I put that on the credit card.

pretty sure you just give them a bill of sale with the price on it. they can raise a fuss if their "book" value is way off from the sale, but if it's rough you can tell them so.

Damn that's rough. Here you can say you paid 1 dollar for it and they have to tax you according because all cars over 10 years old don't require a bill of sale

^ yup same here. But if the purchase price is within $2000 of the NADA value then you can pay taxes on the purchase price.

Basically NADA says a 87 325 4 door is worth $3050... which is bull shit

in massachusetts you pay tax at the value of the car (I think its NADA value)...not bill of sale amount

So you have to pay "use tax" on a private purchase car? That's some bull shit!

I never heard of that. In AZ you just pay to register the car, that's it. The only way you pay taxes is if you buy a new car. Seems to me like double taxation.

    Way to go hipster state!

Are you stoned? I don't think this makes any sense. Don't you pay tac on what the bill of sale says?
