The forum is firstfives.org great guys that will help you out - the E12 is the first 5. I own 4 and have a 77 with 60K this car needs to be saved. Many cars have been parted and the demand is not big for used parts check the forum. They have M30 motors and had thermal reactors on exhaust till 1979 this caused too much heat at the head but can easily be replaced with exhaust manifolds from Bavaria or E24
If you do not decide to save it you should post the location of the yard so someone can. Jeff

If you cant buy it, just share the location of this car to as many people/forums as you can, at least some parts will find their home.

Firstfives is the E12 forum although not a lot of activity over there. I would be interested in a few things if you pick it up. I have 1980 528i 5spd. Anybody wanna buy it?

                  E12 interior

I just registered with this website, only because of the E12 found in Virginia.
Please email me at 'gripgreg@yahoo.com with more pictures & info.
And, actually what changed & stopped the overheating issue, was going from
the thermal reactor which overheated the head, to the catalytic converter used today, beginning in 1980.;)

It would be wise of you to get the dashboard, if it's decent.
Also, the clock & especially the cluster of gauges. Or, just the speedo.
E12'ers love the 140MPH one. The factory gauge reads out at 80mph!
How's the head liner? Is it rusted next to the rr window?
With 55,000 I wonder if the motor over-heated? It may just need a head, if that's the case.
                      The interior looks brand new!
Sounds like an all day job, huh? It might be worth it, though.
                      See ya,,,,Greg
Ps,,,,Please keep me posted via pm.

You better do your research before pulling anything. If you're not familiar with how the stuff goes together and works, you're going to break it and it will be a complete waste. E12s and the early cars in general are a much different animal than E30s and E28s.

The key to that car is to try to get the whole damn thing. Then go from there. A dent in the door can be fixed, etc. It will be a car with a story. You cannot take that stuff in a hurry.

Bimmerforums is a waste for these cars. There isn't even an E12 section (there's a reason).

You won't make anything on the parts. People don't buy them.

^ really,I can't imagine nobody being interested in such a nice interior. And I can get it apart. I have built quite a few Benz's from the ground up.

mye28 and fyi, a lot of the parts on that car are rare, hard to come by or replace and can pull top $$. I dont know which ones as I am not into them, but Brent Kemi knows these like the back of his hand.
