    Thoughts on the X5?

My wife and I have been talking about getting an SUV for quite some time now. My original plan was to pick up a Range Rover Classic (I've had a few). I started driving just about everything under the sun since my e30 is down and I have quickly grown tired of daily driving the Lotus. Since I'm not sure if or when the e30 will be back up and running I think it's time to pull the trigger.

Yesterday I drove a 2005 X5 6speed V8. Silver on black, panoramic sunroof, generally loaded. 128K on the clock and the dealer is asking $7900 with a 3 year/30,000 mile warranty.

I freaking loved that thing. I didn't plan on spending more than $5K initially since I don't want a payment but like I said, I really loved it.

So, since there are several X5 owners here and many who work for dealerships I would love to hear your input.

The car will be used as the occasional daily driver (when the e30 is down), 6+ hour road trips to visit family up north, towing a jet ski to the lake, hauling the dog around and occasionally picking up stuff for the house, car parts, etc.

    Is this a good call?

Aren't x3's like super reliable? Not sure if one would be up for much hauling tho.
I want a nice set of smoked MHW's (I know, get it line)

Sounds like a great deal! The 3 year/30,000 mile warranty is the way to go. When something goes out they are very expensive to repair.

Other than that greal looking car $$ with gas.

If you dont need a large SUV then I would say go for it. My parents have a 3.0 I6 x5 and I love it. No problems except for a window regulator.

I'd say that's a pretty sweet deal. Moreso because of the warranty, but the way I'm seeing it you could drive it till the warranty goes out and sell it for probably just about as much as you paid.

I hadn't done much research and I didn't realize these things were so damn pricey. Guess I'm too cheap to pay any attention. I drove an X3 6speed and it was nice, but much more expensive and didn't feel as "stout" as the X5. I also want more room when kids start showing up...someday.

That being said, I am just waiting on a Carfax report. They told me it had been in an accident a few years back but I honestly couldn't see where the damage would have been.

We have a 01 X5 and love it--would buy again. At 7900 that is a heck of a deal, you should jump on it

Oooh, rebuilt title. That's probably why it's so cheap.

I got to drive one and i loved it. That's the way i'd go if i got a small suv. I've also seen a few x5m basically destroying everything down in Detroit

Oh the rebuilt title really messes up a car that's this new. But look into how bad the accident was. If you plan on keeping the car for a long time then don't worry about the title if the accident wasn't too bad. But if you plan to just sell it after 3 years then it's a more complicated decision.

Depending on where you live, an accident does not require a rebuilt/salvage title. I am fairly sure it doesn't in Tennessee unless the car was a total loss, and I believe the same applies in NC.

My buddy's father in law was looking at one of these recently. It was super clean and priced right, but when we told him about all the things that could/would need attention on it the deal wasn't quite so appealing. Although if the warranty being offered covers EVERYTHING (including the cooling system, driveline and transfer case), go for it.

My father had a x5 with the 4.8 v8 and it was really nice other than electronic issues it had on a pretty consistent basis. It had a stiff ride and a nice interior, also wasnt slow in the least bit for an suv either.
