    Faded andoized alumium fix?

    Anyone tried something that works?

I have a part(roof rack, bike carrier) of some anodized aluminum, looking at bit chalky. I tried cleaner wax - it kinda worked. I tried tire shine - it just shows finger prints.

    What works well?

I have heard of some people polishing it but, then you have to do it again every so often due to the clear being removed.

To really do it right you have to de - anodize it. It isn't that difficult, but anodizing back is - though you don't have to do that.

Though, the best polish I have used is Blue Magic Metal Polish.

        George,
I my experience vasoline and WD40 are the best at what you are trying to accomplish.

The problem with anodizing is that when it fades, there isn't much to make it look new again. It's not a coating, so it's hard to freshen it up without redoing the process.

Contact Paul at Classic Trimcoat and please tell him I referred you. There are some details in my build thread about both his aluminum deoxidizer and his rubber rebuilder kit. I'm very happy with the results I got from both.

Anodizing isn't that incredibly expensive, just FYI. I had to get some centerlock wheel nuts hard anodized, and with a rushed 48-hour turnaround time it was just a "minimum" charge of $150.
