And at the end of the day it will come down to whatever someone is willing to pay for the car. I wish it were a manual, but for the mileage and excellent condition of the car, I won't complain.
$7k wouldn't be a bad price to pay. $4k would be a steal, under 100k miles, all service history and 1 owner? how many could possibly be left with those criteria? There were 6346 US/Canada cars made, and while I do see ix's still they're usually not very nice.
it would certainly be worth more as a manual, but swapping it isn't a big deal (unless you want to keep it as a collector car).
you could always keep the auto around and put it back in later if you were worried about values, there's nothing really to cut or modify to swap to a manual. even the driveshafts are the same.

I was referring to rarity in the US since that's what where the OP is and the market and value is very different in other countries. Here's some production numbers...
And if we're talking about rarity in good condition ones, I think iX's would definitely be way more rare than E30M3s because E30M3's are seen as more of a collectors car my many and many are weekend cars or garage queens now, iX's are for the most part driven year round and rusty.

I just saw the iX. It is nice for being 24 years old. locally owned and BMW dealer serviced. Records go back to early 2000's. Must be close to $6,500 worth of work done. car has 76,700 miles. Runs and rives nice.
Now the bad.
Needs a paint job. It's got faded paint on the hood and doors. Roof and trunk are better. The front bumper has a minor crack and the end of the left front bumper and left front fender don't meet up. Scuff marks on rear bumper and under the rear bumper the lower half is warped inwards. Could use a solid detail to bring the paint up, but at the end of the day it is a sweet running 5 footer.
The current owner is as nice and as honest as they come. He'll let me take it to my mechanic to confirm condition of Transfer case. Not sure i'd go over $5,000 for the car.
I sold a PERFECT 1988 white / black iX 5 speed with 90K miles 3 years ago for $7K. Granted, market prices for E30s has increased moderately, but with tired paint, possible previous front end accident damage, and a slush box I would pay $3K tops.

I was really hoping that the mileage and service history would have been reflective of the overall condition of the car, but it is not and not sure i'd spend $5,000 for it, so bummed out!
