towing a trailer

hey guys, looks like a number of situations is pointing me towards moving back to the east coast, and the cost of a uhaul to towing my car is out of control. the problem is i need to bring back my tool box with me. so im thinking about the smallest uhaul rental trailer. my question is, who tows things with their e30s ? its a 5 speed 325is with a 3.93 lsd. i figure my tools weigh about 750-900 lbs. the box weighs 500 lbs empty

Consider securing the box, or better yet, boxing it up, put it on a pallet and having it shipped.

i agree that the stopping issue is what trailers are rated on more than the pulling power.
i want a hitch on mine so i understand what you are thinking.
but if you are only looking for this one time thing, i dont know if a hitch is the best way to go.
if you do tow, consider the small $350 harbor freight trailer, i think the uhaul itself weighs to much.

Seconded. You guys just need to man up. Towing with an E30 is easy. No different than any other car of the same weight really.

Looks like that guy had a case of driver induced oscillation. Or he had loose steering and the load got away from him, it can happen on a gentle curve before you know it.

So what's your opinion on this? Where the trailer grossly outweighs the truck?





Or, this for example. A semi. Where the truck itself weighs about 16,000-23,000 lbs. whereas a full trailer can weigh 64,000 alone..

if you take it easy, and don't overload the trailer, there shouldn't be any problem. keep the weight as much as you can to the front of the trailer if possible.
