if so could you buy these for seperate?, also do you really need all that or just the CD?
Coms Cable SMT-PRO, SMT5, SMT6
SMT6 Test Jig
SMT6 Shorting Plug
SMT6 Development Manual on CD
All I had when I did my install was the sMT6 box, and a wire harness. You don't need any CDs, jigs, or shorting plugs. In fact, I made my own shorting plug with a standard ATX extension.
Honestly, the instructions for wiring are crap. All you gotta do is figure out which wires do what on the SMT6 (by looking @ the install instructions) then break out your bentley and do the rest.
Yes, you can buy those other parts separately. They also have a TPS and MAP sensor which are made to work with the SMT6.
If the SMT6 undergoes hardware changes, you would probably need a new unit. As far as firmware - i am not aware of an update program, but that doesn't mean one doesn't exist.

I'm sure this has come up before, but any comparision of SMT6 to Split Second (either using the manual air/fuel ratio calibrator or the programable calibrator)?

my opinion is that you can pretty much match the split second unit with the smt6 - but it will take a bit more work. Lets not forget that while the smt6 is capable of allowing such conversions, you can also use it to adv/ret your ignition and some other fun stuff.
I haven't worked with the split second unit, but i have a *feeling* that it would be easier to get a complete MAF conversion done EASIER with the SPLIT SECOND setup.

well, some people might suggest stretching the the intake boot over the MAF... i didn't want to do this for fear of the boot breaking. Also, by using that little rubber tube adapter, i have added some length to the intake so it is sitting as far in front of the car as possible.
My filter just barely didn't fit on the maf, i shaved a few mills off the inside, and then was able to push it on.
As far as the wiring, ALL of it is in the glove box. There are things you can do that would require you to go out of the glovebox, but i have a pretty standard setup and didn't need to. The extent of wiring is splicing, and cutting/re-attatching some wires. That's about it... it is a little time consuming though. You'll probably spend more time finding the right wires to use than anything else. Here's a pic of my glovebox when i first installed the SMT6. It looks a little cleaner now than in that pic.

you're da man for doing this first! :D 8)
I was hoping no wires would have to be run through the firewall from say the MAF, but it's good to hear you can use the wires that were used with the AFM. Now that I reflect, it was a silly notion, but better ask than be surprised later!
